The Member of Parliament for Boteti East, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe, toured some development projects in Letlhakane on Monday January 23.
The projects included the construction of boreholes, primary school classroom blocks and the progress on the BHC and SHAA houses.
According to the site foreman of EMARR Enterprises, Mr Katlego Chere who undertakes the project to construct 12 classes for Supang Primary school, they encountered a challenge of heavy rains and a large bed rock, which set them back a week behind schedule.
However, the company had set out to get more workers to speed up the construction process.
When Mr Lelatisitswe asked about any corporate social investments and responsibilities that the company had shown to the school, Mr Chere stated that the company had not done any projects of that sort yet, but they had merit awards planned for the top achievers of the school.
The project started in August 2016 and was expected to end in May 2017.
In an interview, the head electrician at Botswana Power Corporation in Letlhakane, also responsible for Supang Primary School project stated that the council ought to help disburse power because the school carries a lot of electricity that is underutilized. He continued to indicate that power was sufficient enough for the project in the school.
The head teacher of Supang Primary school Mrs Merci Bayane, expressed a lot of appreciation for the project. She mentioned that the days of having classes being taught under trees were over as classes were usually suspended during rainy or windy days, adding that there were eleven classes currently being taught in outdoor areas.
The project is at 11 per cent completion status with foundation walls in two blocks and trench level for remaining blocks.
Another project involves design, supply and equipping of two boreholes.
The project includes transmission pipeline and associated works for Letlhakane village water supply scheme. Water works superintendent for Water Utilities Corporation, Mr Mmothi Segale reported that the project was funded because the current borehole has a low yield, incapacitated to cater for the whole village.
Mr Segale stated that water has been tested and the borehole would be operating through electricity without a back-up generator. The project however is behind schedule, and would be handed over by end of March. The project is 15 per cent complete. ENDS
