Official cautions job seekers

An official from Mowana Copper Mines in Dukwi has warned job seekers against falling prey to unscrupulous people who claim to be contracted to do recruitment for the soon to be opened mine.
Addressing hundreds of job seekers who had thronged Dukwi kgotla last week, Mr Thabo Medupi said they had received reports that some people were claiming on social media that they were recruiting for the mine.
Mr Medupi noted that although a lot of people were in need of employment following the closure of some mines around the country, they should not fall victim to such syndicates.
He emphasised that they should not get into debt as a result of making means to get money by paying people who claimed they would assist them to get employment at the mine.
He said although the mine was working under pressure to recruit to meet the target set by the new owners to start production by the beginning of February, they had since advertised for positions in the media.
“Only the advertised positions are the once available and people should tender in their application to the provided addresses or drop them off personally at the mine,” he advised.
In terms of casual labourers, he said they were going to liaise with the local leadership to have them employed at their respective kgotlas on the YES and NO basis.
In addition, Ms Mantho Monyadzwe, also from the new mine, said the with the start of production next month, the mine would be operating on a trial basis which will last for three months upon which, the owners will outline the way forward.
She said they would be only be employing a handful on a restructuring process until such a time that they will gradually advertise more positions which will be available. BOPA
