Vandalism of water pipes worrisome

The Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) has decried vandalism of water pipes in Pitsane.
Waterworks superintendent for Good Hope substation, Mr Omphemetse Kealeboga said this at Dinatshana recently during a constituency tour by the area Member of Parliament, Kgosi Lotlaamoreng II.
He said residents deliberately broke pipes to water their livestock.
“This is a worrying development that needs to stop as it works against efforts to ensure water supply,” he said.
He warned that water consumption from broken pipes could pose health hazard.
Thus, he encouraged residents to desist from the practice, adding there were already cases in Pitsane where people fell sick after drinking water undergoing treatment from such broken pipes.
Furthermore, Mr Kealeboga said WUC was working tirelessly to restore water supply in the constituency since boreholes had all dried up, and thus urged residents to use water wisely.
“Our boreholes have all dried and we are currently drinking from Gaborone Dam. We must pray for more rain so that the dam fills up,” he said.
Mr Kealeboga said however the ultimate and long term solution was to connect the villages to the North-South water carrier project.
Among other issues raised at the consultative meeting, Dinatshana Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Mosimanegape Mathokgwane said internal roads needed to be attended to forthwith.
Mr Mathokgwane also appealed for construction of a bridge that would facilitate easy passage of primary school children during rainy season. BOPA
