State of bridge worries Nlapkhwane residents
23 Jan 2017
Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Mr Falani Masalila is not happy with the condition of the bridge on the road that passes through their village linking Masunga to the A1 highway.
Speaking in a kgotla meeting addressed by Member of Parliament for Tati West, Mr Biggie Butale in Nlapkhwane recently, Mr Masalila said the bridge was on the verge of collapsing .
Mr Masalila said they were promised that the bridge would be maintained because the road was a major link used by motorists from Namibia to Zimbabwe.
He indicated that the road was in a bad state given that it was narrow and uneven from Mulambakwena to Ramokgwebana village.
On the other hand, Mr Ikageng Baitse from the Department of Roads in Masunga explained that they were aware of the situation.
Mr Baitse said the bridge would be maintained during Phase 2 of the resealing of the Mulambakwena/Ramokgwebana section of the road.
He noted that the bridge and the entire road maintenance project could have been completed in the year 2012 but it was impossible due to lack of funds.
However, he said they had hoped that the road would be part of Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) projects but funds available were only enough for Tshesebe-Masunga road.
Kgosi Mukani Mudongo of Nlapkhwane expessed concern about cases of burglary and break-ins in his village.
Kgosi Mudongo indicated that in the past weeks, an old woman was attacked in her home and severely wounded.
As such, he pleaded with the community to come up with solutions to the problem.
He acknowledged some of the challenges that police officers in his village were faced with and nevertheless commended them for their patience.
He also urged the community to work with the police to curb the increasing numbers of burglary incidents.
Assistant Superintendent Vincent Tebogo of Masunga police station said he was aware of the burglary cases in the village, which he attributed to continued consumption of alcohol and use of drugs such as marijuana.BOPA
