Former district commissioner dies

Former Good Hope district commissioner, Mr Modisenyane Bobeng has passed om.
Mr Bobeng, aged 79, died after a short illness at Gweta Primary Hospital on January 17.
Mr Bobeng, who was the son of Mr Sewetse Bobeng and Ms Gaisang Bobeng, was born in Gweta and did his elementary education in Gweta and then proceeded to Francistown to complete his Standard 7.
He later trained as teacher at Lobatse Teachers Training College and after completing his studies he taught at Nyangabgwe Primary School in Francistown.
He also served as a school head for Nyamabisi, Marapong and Gweta primary schools.
Due to his dedication to education, Mr Bobeng decided to take the University of Botswana, Lesotho and Swaziland entry examination in which he was named the best performer and was declared as one of the first elite graduates in 1976 of the UBLS with a Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities with a major in History.
Upon completing his university education, from 1978 to1985, he served in various secondary schools as a teacher and also a school head at Selibe Phikwe, Seepapitso and Kgari Sechele secondary schools.
In 1985, he changed careers and was appointed the district commissioner in Francistown.
A few years later he was transferred to Tutume sub district, then Good Hope where he retired and was nominated councillor at Sowa Town in 2004-2009.
In an interview, one of his sons, Mr Moses Bobeng, said his father was a man of honour, strict and also humble. He said his father instilled upon his children his motto of ‘be slow but sure’.
He is survived by his wife, eight children and 17 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He will be buried in Gweta on January 28. BOPA
