22 Jan 2017

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development Mr Slumber Tsogwane has urged attendants of a kgotla meeting in Orapa to report crime to secure government properties.

Minister Tsogwane said this during a kgotla meeting held in Orapa on Thursday. He noted that the solar panels which were installed on the fence that ran alongside Makgadikgadi National Park to prevent elephants from crossing into tribal area were stolen, but were not reported.

He advised Boteti residents that it was essential to install cordon fence on the side of the park for purposes of security.

Therefore he said it was secure and safer to have the fence put up on the side of the park than on the side of the village.

Minister Tsogwane also indicated it was essential to take services closer to the people citing that trying to establish Rakops as a Sub-district could not add much value than service provision.

He stated the issue of upgrading Orapa Junior Secondary School to a more enhanced standard that meet that of Debswana schools would be taken to the relevant authorities.

He indicated that it was essential to encourage the mine to procure locally produced goods.

A resident of Orapa Mr Obusitswe Marae had complained that elephants were terrorizing people in their fields. BOPA
