President Lt General Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama on Tuesday visited Lentswelemoriti village where he gave away food hampers and snacks to elderly people and children.
Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development, Mr Thapelo Olopeng who was accompanying President Khama said in an interview that President Khama started giving away hampers since Christmas Day.
He said the President has so far gave away 32 000 snacks to children and 1100 food hampers to the elderly people in 10 villages.
These villages include among others Shakawe, Serowe, Chadibe, Mosu, Xaxa, Xangwa and Mothabaneng.
He said President Khama wants to see Batswana happy and has taken the initiative to give away hampers to put a smile on people’s faces.
He said the response from Batswana was very impressive as they never cease to express their happiness.
He said President Khama started giving back to the community a long time ago, citing the Lady Khama Charitable Trust as an example.
He said President Khama intends to continue with charity work after retirement.
For his part, the Zion Christion Church elder pastor Lebotse Matshego expressed his happiness for having the President giving away hampers and snacks to residents of Lentswelemoriti.
He said giving shows the President’s love for his people and thanked him for not only bringing happiness to the elderly and children, but also for meeting their needs, adding that his people would not go to bed on an empty stomach. He also thanked the President for ruling this country with love, adding that it was an indication of good governance. BOPA
