Kgotla shelters to have facelift
19 Jan 2017
Kgotla shelters in the Ngamiland region, which are synonymous with a half built one roomed house and reliance on big trees for shade during kgotla meetings would be a thing of the past.
The Maun Administration Authority chairperson, Mr Gaokgakala Letswee, has said there was an ongoing exercise to construct proper shelter which will accommodate congregants during kgotla meetings in the whole district.
Mr Letswee explained during kgotla meetings addressed by the Ngami Member of Parliament Mr Thato Kwerepe in his constituency recently.
The construction of such shelters, he said began in Khwai village in Maun East constituency and Tsau village in the Ngami constituency.
Mr Letswee pointed out that lack of proper shelter has resulted in catastrophes such as that accident that occurred at Tsau kgotla in which a tree fell on attendants.
He therefore said the MAA has seen it fit to construct proper shelter to house the people during ceremonial meetings.
Residents of Semboyo and Makakung villages raised concerns with regard to the issue pointing out that they feared the big trees which are normally Magotho will fall on them like it happened in Tsau.BOPA
