Crime prevention requires all

18 Jan 2017

Kgosi Masego Masonya of Phase IV Customary Court in Francistown has appealed to Batswana to play an active role in fighting crime by working collectively with the law enforcement agencies at all times.

He made this appeal in an interview with BOPA recently, explaining that in most cases, some people have negative thoughts that preventing crime in the country was the sole responsibility of the police.

Kgosi Masonya explained that crime was one of the most worrying issues, and hence the need for everybody to get involved to help fight it. He added that people must bear in mind that preventing crime was everybody’s responsibility hence the need to report any issues of crime to the police for further investigations.

Kgosi Masonya highlighted that when people join efforts in crime prevention, it would be an indication that they wanted to thrive to promote and maintain the peace and tranquillity that prevails in the country.

“Botswana is a country that is best known for its peace and tranquillity and as such, the nation must take the lead in curbing incidents that may negatively impact on the country’s image,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kgosi Masonya raised a concern about some Batswana who continue to hire and accommodate illegal immigrants despite several warnings.

This, he said, was one way of encouraging crime in the country since such people tend to be involved in criminal activities such as livestock theft, shop breakings and rape.

Furthermore, Kgosi Masonya lamented that there was still high incidents of sale of drugs in the community of Francistown by some parents.

He said this was illegal and had negatively impacted on the behaviour of the youth in particular and as well as the school going children from the city. ENDS
