Register tribal lands - Mmolotsi

16 Jan 2017

Member of Parliament for Francistown South, Mr Wynter Mmolotsi has urged Somerset residents to register their tribal lands before end of January to avoid penalty charges.

Addressing a kgotla meeting in Somerset Park last week,  Mr Mmolotsi said the idea of the registration was that government wanted land boards to know, which land had been allocated, to whom it had been allocated to and for what purposes, so that land that had not been allocated could be identified for future allocations.

The legislator also urged residents not sell their plots but to secure them for the younger generations as the land policy states that one man one plot.

On other issues of development, Mr Mmolotsi said some of the projects catered for under the National Development Plan 11 include the Francistown District Hospital and Phase 1V Customary Court.

He said the hospital project estimated at around P1 billion includes the Psychiatric unit, with 100 beds. Mr Mmolotsi said the Phase 1V Customary Court would have proper offices.

In his welcome remarks, Donga deputy customary court Kgosi Tebogo Stephen reminded residents about the importance of kgotla meetings encouraging them to be proactive.

Ward Development Committee vice chairperson, Mr Molaodi Maiketso appreciated developments in Francistown especially the interchange road.

He also thanked Francistown City Council for giving them an open space to use, but requested that the space be increased so that they could build a recreational centre for young people. He requested for storm water drainage in his area noting that during rainy season they were subjected to flooding water in their yards.

Responding to some of the issues raised, Mr Mmolotsi said government had no funds but in future when the economy recovers the drainage master plan system would be looked into.

He said the council would assist with the master plan drainage system by doing it in phases. BOPA
