September 2016 saw Kgosi Goboletswe Ketsitlile and Daniel Kelosiwang, whose presence in the Bangwaketse royal house dates back to Bathoen’s rulling, retiring from their royal duties.
This was announced by Kgosi Malope II of Bangwaketse at a kgotla meeting in Kanye on January 13.
Kgosi Malope II also announced that he found Kgosi Kwelagobe Mookodi fit to inherit Kgosi Ketsitlile’s chair after his retirement as senior chief’s representative in Kanye.
As a sign of approval, the residents, who came in numbers to fill the kgotla, ululated with joy as Mookodi took his position, ready to perform his duties as spelt out by Kgosi Malope II.
“I searched, but Mr Mookodi is the man I trust for this position. He is a powerful man with passion for royal duties,” Kgosi Malope II said.
He said Mr Mookodi had been a headman of record in Moshupa for almost 17 years, the duty he performed passionately.
“I do believe that Moshupa will arrange a way to fill his position. Although it is a loss for our neighbours, for us it is a lifetime opportunity,” Kgosi Malope II said.
Kgosi Malope II also explained that for Mr Kelosiwang, an arrangement for who would succeed him is in progress at his Mongala ward.
He also applauded Kanye residents for their good conduct during the festive season, saying no bad news reached his offices.
Kgosi Malope II advised residents who conduct picnics at Mmakgodumo Dam to seek permission from Bathoen Trust and to avoid polluting the environment.
Residents appreciated Kgosi’s decision of appointing Kgosi Mookodi to work with them. One resident, Mpho Kenosi said they were happy about the decision, adding that it would build cooperation between the two villages of Moshupa and Kanye.
Another resident, Mr Moagi Mmusi praised the decision, saying it would restore the rapport that Kanye and Moshupa lost.
For his part, Kgosi Ketsitlile thanked residents for working with him harmoniously for many years.
He thanked God for keeping him healthy to this date. He promised that he would always lend a helping hand in royal duties whenever the need arises. BOPA
