16 Jan 2017
Member of Parliament for Bobonong has implored public servants in Bobonong constituency to begin the year on a high note and with reengineered thoughts and personal decisions to serve the public.
Mr Shaw Kgathi made the plea during a meeting with heads of departments for local and central government on January 10. He added that as servants of the people they had taken vows to assist the public.
Mr Kgathi stated that as the MP, he appreciates their wiliness to work in the area where some of the service could not be described as best, “but government would enable you to reach your abilities”.
The MP thanked public officers for working as a team during the roving torch and the 50 years of independence that preparations in the area were seamless.
Further, he showered officers with accolades, noting that in 2016 their performance in service delivery was excellent and encouraged them to continue with the pleasing work ethic.
He said officers faced shortages of resources, adding that should not be a hindrance to service delivery but must be innovative to overcome the obstacles.
Mr Kgathi, who is also Minister of Defence, Justice and Security said since civil servants have what is called “culture capital” they must advice students about the dangers of teenage pregnancy, as that also has correlation to the spread of HIV.
The MP stated that unemployment still remains a challenge but government has flagship programmes all churned to reduce poverty and unemployment
About the closure of BCL, Mr Kgathi said officers must exercise flexibility because it would have distortions on the planning and distort figures on poverty hence the need to assist those that seek programmes.
“There will be flocking for services and possibilities for adjustment and amendments to accommodate those who would be seeking services to alleviate them from poverty,” he said.
Education officer for SELEBO, Ms Lillian Matshameko thanked the MP for his support in the education sector adding that his intervention came through donation of school uniforms and many others that helped in the improvement of education.
Senior assistant council secretary, Ms Gomolemo Moepeng also thanked the MP for supporting the entire departments in his constituency, which was a sign of commitment and exemplary leadership.BOPA
