Sankoyo Bush Bucks team and supporters were reeling in shock after Gaborone United shattered their hopes by beating them 3-0 during their opening match of the second round of the season at Maun Sports Complex over the weekend.
Although the supporters had high hopes that the Ngurungu boys would sail through GU and make them proud as they looked refreshed from the festive season this was not to be.
In the first half both teams played to their best as they made numerous attempts to score but it seemed both the goal keepers did their homework well.
Ngurungu, who seemed to command a large following came with high hopes of getting an easy win over their rivals, but were shocked when the visiting team took control of the game from the beginning of the second half.
Hardly 10 minutes after the break, it seemed GU corrected their mistakes as they easily made their way to Sankoyo goal post and found Tumisang Orebonye in a good position and managed to register the first goal through his header.
GU's goal seemed to have shaken the Sankoyo's side as they started making substitutions on short intervals, a strategy that did not bring them any results.
The visiting team continued putting up a brave performance, pilling more pressure with many shots and it was Orebonye again who silenced Ngurungu supporters on the 80th minute through a brilliant goal which was taken from a free kick.
On the 88th minute, GU's striker, Hendrick Moyo registered the third goal shattering Ngurungu's hopes of winning the game.
In an interview, the winning head coach, Rodolfo Zapata congratulated his boys for a job well done noting that they expected a tough game but their attacking style worked.
He said his boys finished easily all the chances they created hence they managed to collect the maximum points. “My boys made us proud and we are aiming high as we start the second round of the season,” he added.
For his part Ngurungu assistant coach, Tiiso Gadimang said they did not expect any good results as the boys were not well prepared for the game.
He noted that the boys had not been training while some returned a day before their encounter.
Sankoyo also missed key players such as the striker Walter Sandae and defender Modiredi Matengu as some were reported that they did not return because they were not paid their dues.
“We lost and we had to go back to the drawing board and take it from there and we still need to beef up some departments in my squad”. BOPA
