Goya commends Palapye VDCs
16 Jan 2017
Member of Parliament for Palapye Mr Moiseraele Goya has commended Palapye Village Development Committees (VDCs) for their concerted efforts in the development of the constituency.
Mr Goya held a consultative meeting recently with the VDCs to map the way forward in regard to allocation and distribution of P10 million to be received by Palapye as a result of the Constituency Development Fund policy in the year 2017.
The VDCs were tasked by Mr Goya to consult with the masses to agree on development projects that could add value to their lives as well as grow Palapye’s economy.
‘You have done a tremendous job of consulting with the people and getting different views and ideas on the way forward. You have always done that as the VDCs and I thank you very much for your efforts,” he said.
The Palapye legislator who is also the Assistant Minister of Basic Education emphasised the importance of consultation saying it will avoid unnecessary conflicts that often arise when financial resources are involved.
The VDCs resolved that the situation of internal roads was urgent and need to be addressed since the roads become bad especially during the rainy season.
‘Our roads in Thomadithotse get flooded and muddy when it rains and this makes our lives difficult. We need to develop our internal roads so that when we say Palapye is being developed into a town then the roads system will be evidence of such transformation,’ said Ms Khumoeng Diau, chairperson of Thomadithotse VDC.
Mr Goya agreed with the VDCs that roads need to be developed either through paving or gravelling as the allocated funds will be insufficient to go for tarred roads across all wards in Palapye.
The legislator then suggested that half of the money be used for the procurement of heavy machinery like graders needed for servicing and maintenance of roads since Palapye Administration Authority does not have sufficient or enough equipment.
‘We have agreed in unison that our gravel roads need servicing and maintenance. And we know the cost of outsourcing such services that P1 million will not be enough for such an activity in a ward,’ said Mr Goya.
“‘Therefore, it will be a very good and noble idea, that we as Palapye purchase our own machinery. BOPA
