Kgosi complains about state of lake

Kgosi Kandu Kandu of Sehithwa has complained about waste left behind by fishermen at Lake Ngami, an issue he said had rendered their cattle useless as they were always condemned at the abattoirs due to having consumed waste such as plastics and human waste.
He expressed his complaint at a kgotla meeting addressed by the Member of Parliament for Ngami Mr Thato Kwerepe who is also Assistant Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration at Sehithwa recently.
On the other hand, he commended the Veterinary Department for eliminating dogs that were killing goats and sheep in the village a response he said has pleased the residents.
However MP Kwerepe told the Ngami Conservation Trust and residents to safeguard the Lake Ngami area so that they can reap good rewards both on fishing and livestock.
He said Ngami Conservation Trust has to come up with strict fishing procedures and actions to those who continue fishing during its closure so that the area can benefit them all considering that Lake Ngami is rich in fish.
Meanwhile Sehithwa Sub-district agricultural officer Mr Bakwena Galekgorwe advised residents to use the authorised row planting method in their fields, the only method which he said a farmer can be compensated when their crops are destroyed by animals.
The Village Development Committee chairperson, Ms Maletelo Molatlhiwa, informed the minister that there was shortage of accommodation for public servants especially the Weigh Bridge employees who still sleep in caravans as well as the Botswana Police Service officers.
“We are only happy for the ipelegeng programme in this village but as for the Poverty Eradication Programme we are not because we are only offered small stock programme. We want other programmes that provide machinery,” said Ms Molatlhiwa.
On other issues, residents complained about delays on the electrification and water supply of the Lenganeng ward in the village. BOPA
