Tsetsebjwe clinic is one of the oldest clinics in the country having been opened in 1976.
Matron of Tsetsebjwe Clinic, Ms Seanokeng Tlhako said told BOPA on Tuesday that the clinic started with two rooms and one health worker.
“After the government realised that the village was growing fast the clinic buildings were expanded,” she said.
Ms Tlhako said in 1983 the only health worker in the clinic was joined by two nurses.
Within a few months another health worker was brought to the clinic as one health worker was no longer able to handle the workload.
She said as time went on the maternity ward was built in the clinic and two midwives were also brought in because Bobonong and Selebi Phikwe hospitals were too far with too bad gravel roads to transport women in labour.
Ms Tlhako said Tsetsebjwe Clinic is also the first clinic in Bobirwa to dispense ARV drugs.
She said the availability of antiretroviral drugs drugs at Tsetsebjwe Clinic reduced HIV related deaths in the village.
Ms Tlhako said currently Tsetsebjwe Clinic has five health workers and six nurses, which numbers will be increased because the village is growing rapidly. The clinic also expects to be provided with a doctor in the near future because of its status. BOPA
