BDP true guardian of democracy Ntuane

10 Jan 2017

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) has ensured a good environment for the country’s successful governance and democratic dispensation.

This was emphasised by the secretary general of BDP Mr Botsalo Ntuane  when officially launching the party’s council candidate for Boikago/Madiba ward Mr Thabo Dimeku over the weekend.

Mr Ntuane said  the party’s internal democracy arrangement, Bulela Ditswe promotes the true values of progressive governing whereupon the masses cement their role in decision making by electing their preferred leaders at all levels.

The former legislator said the party values democracy and always respects the wishes of the people and that Batswana should join the BDP in numbers to strengthen and protect the country’s democracy.

“We didn’t pick Dimeku as the central committee. Democrats decided through Bulela Ditswe that they want Dimeku instead of the other two contenders. That’s the beautiful thing about our party,” he said.

Mr Ntuane said  the candidates who did not win, Ms Malebogo Orapeleng and Mr Boitshoko Kinnear who now forms part of Dimeku campaign team are bona fide democrats who have always had the best interests of the party and people at heart.

“There was always going to be only one winner. Everyone had a better chance of winning and the people decided on only one. Kinnear and Orapeleng, true democrats, didn’t run away after losing Bulela Ditswe because they understood that this is democracy. And this is the true nature of our party,” he said.

Ntuane further emphasised that the country’s democratic dispensation has ensured that the BDP -led government implements progressive policies meant to grow the country and develop the lives of the citizenry.

He revealed that Botswana’s welfare model which is criticised by members of the opposition is necessary so that every Motswana has access to better healthcare, education as well as upholding of individual freedom.

“Our education is free. Healthcare is free. When you look at the actual cost of educating a child, taking care of an expecting mother, an elder with sugar diabetes, you will understand that the BDP and only BDP cares about the lives of the people because we have ensured free access to a whole lot of things,” he said.

Mr Ntuane said   the BDP government has successfully transferred the wealth of the country to the ordinary man on the street through development schemes and policies like the Youth Development Fund, Economic Stimulus Programme, Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency and many others which are availed to every citizen of the state including members of opposition who criticise the very same policies that have benefited them.

Mr Ntuane was accompanied by Minister of Basic Education Dr Unity Dow and  Assistant Minister of Basic Education Mr Moiseraele Goya. ENDS
