Molefi Senior Secondary School class of 1996(5E) donated toys to pre-scholars at Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre on Monday.
Items donated included heaters, DVD player, skipping ropes, basins for bathing lessons, exercise mats, jumbo wax crayons, and play dough.
Mr Samuel Chuma, a group representative, said after deciding to make Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre their next project they set the ball rolling by visiting the school to see how they could assist.
“The school requested toys for the pre-school as they did not have much for the 28 children coming to school at the beginning of the term,” said Mr Chuma.
Motswedi Rehabilitation Centre coordinator Ms Salang Rapoo said the school is one of the few in Botswana that empowered children living with disability.
She said they were doing their best to give them interpersonal and life skills so they could establish their own businesses.
Ms Rapoo appreciated the support they were receiving especially from individuals. She said unlike in the past, it was difficult for them to get international support thereby making it more challenging for them to run the centre.
She said they were glad to have had the Class of 1996 give toys and other items as the term begins.
Mr Olerile Retaabona, a representative from Motswedi said it was by God’s grace that the group reunited after 20 years to help the centre.
“It is hard to receive such blessings but an honour when one remembers you in times of need as it also encourages us as the centre to do more for the children,” he said.
Retaabona said he was glad for Motswedi to have been chosen among many to receive the gifts as they will help put a smile on the children. ENDS
