Constituency fund vital for development

Constituency development fund known as LG1109 plan will play a crucial role in uplifting development in the Bobonong constituency.
Speaking during kgotla meetings with Village Development Committees (VDC) and other committees in Bobonong and Semolale villages on Monday, the are MP and Minister for Defence, Justice and Security Mr Shaw Kgathi said LG1109 plan is an initiative established by the local government ministry to up development in the local communities.
Mr Kgathi said his constituency is among other constituencies that will receive money amounting to P10 million to spend on development projects.
He said the money will be spent on developments projects like paving of some roads, school maintenance, putting solar lights on crime prone areas, constructing kgotla shelters and building of changing rooms at boarder post.
Mr Kgathi advised VDC committees and other committees that were present to prioritise and talk about things that could be seen as well as appreciated by people when making plans about development projects.
He said the projects should not be concentrated on development projects that could lead to over expenditure.
Mr Kgathi highlighted that one solar light is estimated to cost around P8 000.
Not excluding other wards, he explained that in a recent meeting with the Bobirwa councillors they concurred on doing certain developments projects like construction of a recreational centre at Rasetimela and day care centre at Mabumahidu ward.
In contrast, he stressed that he has designed a booklet that narrates on successful developments projects as well as initiatives that have born fruit in the Bobonong constituency.
He said contents in the state of the Bobonong constituency reports book include construction of the Bobonong internal roads, Platjan Bridge, distribution of school uniform to various schools and others.
"Some contents in the book also shows that some primary schools in the constituency such as Lentswelemoriti and Tsetsebye are doing well academically,” he continued.
Mr Kgathi advised VDCs to play a vital role on matters concerning the community.
"There is no how government could carry out or do development without VDC committee,” he said.
He explained that government works through a policy called bottom up policy.
He said there is huge gap between VDC and other committees in both village.
He urged VDCs to take part on issues concerning education and development.
Mr Kgathi cited teenage pregnancy as one of the concerns.
He said a total of 30 students from Matshekge Senior Secondary School dropped out of school due to pregnancy last year. ENDS
