BDP launches council candidate

Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) leadership has been described as sound enough to drive national developments and agendas geared towards transforming the lives of Batswana.
Speaking during a BDP candidate launch for Tsabong North Ward bye- election in the Kgalagadi South Constituency on Sunday, party chairperson, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi said that BDP’s prudent financial and resource management over the years had proven that the party has got what it takes to remain in power.
He said the ward and the constituency should remain a strong hold of BDP for ever to ensure that constituents continue benefiting from government programmes tailor-made to improve their livelihood.
Mr Masisi, also the Vice President expressed optimism that the candidate, Mr Edward Coetzee would emerge victorious for council bye-elections slated for January 21.
He said the party is intensifying its recruitment drive; therefore he challenged all democrats to come on board and recruit others to ‘join the party that has got direction’.
The vice President said the BDP-led government has brought numerous developments, therefore the party deserves to be in power to ensure that the economy remains buoyant and that peace and tranquility continue to prevail.
He challenged Mr Coetzee to respect the dos and don’ts of the party and Bogosi, noting that the council aspirant should be submissive to people as it is the custom of the party.
BDP is a party for people from all walks of life, Mr Masisi said, pointing out that adherence to the rules and regulations of the party would prolong the days of the aspirant councillor in politics.
He urged Mr Coetzee to be proactive and strive to prove that government programmes and initiatives are viable.
Meanwhile, BDP recruited 35 new members in Makopong-Draaihoek ward and five in Tsabong North ward, whom the Vice President welcomed ‘with both hands and whole heartedly’.
For his part, Member of Parliament for Okavango, Mr Bagalatia Arone urged constituents to vote wisely and do what is best for themselves.
He said government is going to work on promoting syndicate boreholes to improve the water situation for pastoral farming as the area has got potential in livestock production.
Another speaker, Mr Lotty Manyapedza said BDP’s capability cannot be over-emphasised as it has proved by fighting dreaded diseases as well as through its quick response to natural disasters. He said there is no party in the country that has got expertise to take Botswana forward except BDP. ENDS
