Bobonong taxi industry booms as battle against piracy pays dividends

Chairperson of Bobonong Taxi Services Mr Godfrey Gasebatho said since they branded taxis in Bobonong, numbers of illegal taxis have gone down.
Mr Gasebatho told BOPA in an interview in Bobonong recently.
He said the aim of branding Bobonong taxis was to identify them according to their place of business operation.
“Our taxis in Bobonong are now making enough money better than before they were branded because our customers are now using legal Taxi Services with bold letters at the back,” he said.
Mr Gasebatho said they were given this idea by the Department of Roads and Transport to brand their taxis so that their place of business operation can easily be identified.
He said after adopting the motion all Bobonong taxi operators branded their taxis with bold words written Bobonong Taxi Services at the back of every taxi operating in Bobonong.
Mr Gasebatho said this helped them to differentiate illegal taxis and legal ones.
He said since they branded their taxis their customers also did not want to use illegal taxis knowing that they might put their lives in risk and legal taxis operate according to rules and regulations of department of roads and transport.
"Since people stopped using illegal taxis our taxi business started to make enough money,"he said.
Mr Gasebatho said Bobonong Taxi Services is fully abiding by department of roads and transport rules and regulations.
He said their taxis are used as public transport and they can not be used as family cars.
“The blue plate numbers and taxi light on our taxis are not removed as our cars are specially used as public transport,” he said.
Mr Gasebatho said they managed to convience illegal taxi owner to follow legal steps to register their taxis so that they can operate legally. ENDS
