04 Jan 2017

Despite the influx of both international and domestic tourists, Kasane township remained relatively crime-free over the festive holidays, thanks to targeted police patrols in and around the area.

Kasane station commander, Superintendent Silton Fidzani said this in an interview highlighting that the area recorded no road accidents or break-ins during the entire festive holidays.

What was recorded however were two cases of drunken driving. He thanked residents for their cooperation in celebrating the holidays peacefully.

However in one bizarre incident, a 23 year old woman was due to appear at the magistrate January 4 for unlawful wounding after pouring hot oil over another female relative after a misunderstanding between the two.

The victim has since been hospitalised after suffering severe burns on both her face and body from the burning oil.

Superintendent Fidzani explained that the two women both aged 23, who live in the same yard are said to have had a misunderstanding on January 1over living arrangements.

The fight led to one of the ladies resorting to burning cooking oil in the house and pouring it over her relative before going on the run.

She was subsequently traced in Parakarungu village and taken into custody before appearing in court for unlawful wounding. ENDS
