The Francistown District Health Management Team (DHMT) assistant director, Ms Mavilyn Benn has said Botswana as one of the developing countries is faced with the urgency to deliver and effectively service citizens despite limited resources.

Speaking at the Francistown office of the District Commissioner’s staff performance and excellence awards on December 21, Ms Benn said government was under pressure to adopt innovative approaches and solutions that would reduce spending, while prioritising and fast tracking service delivery.

She noted that there was continuous need to make for the public servants to make excellent service and delivery a priority and to move towards modernisation of methods, processes and infrastructure in the public service.

Ms Benn said other many initiatives the public service excellence wards provided the public sector with was an opportunity to demonstrate its tangibly capacity to innovate and modernise service delivery.

She said the awards should not only be viewed as celebration only, but importantly as a time for showcasing and sharing experience among peers in quest for excellence.

“Awards should also be an opportunity to educate the public at large on the values, virtues and the worth of the public service,” she said.

Ms Benn commended the award winners for their commitment and not only simply doing their jobs, but also having vision to go extra mile and apply their sense of creativity to serve differently.

She also applauded the award winners’ colleagues and families for their support, adding that without their backup they could not have performed well.
