Olopeng implores churches to pray harder
28 Dec 2016
MP for Tonota, Thapelo Olopeng, has implored churches to pray against road accidents that continue to claim lives.
Speaking at Remmogo celebration church service on December 24, Olopeng said accidents, especially those that occurred along the A1 road were a concern, adding that it was high time churches came together and called for God’s intervention.
He noted that since the inception of the celebrations last year, he made churches part of it and police statistics indicated that for the first time in the village, there were no crime incidents recorded.
Olopeng said it was evident that if churches came together and pray for social ills, God would answer their prayers. He noted that this year, he invited over 20 churches in Tonota to be part of the celebrations since he was confident that with prayer everything would run smoothly.
He said Batswana were a prayerful nation and cited that even the three dikgosi who went to ask for the country to become a British protectorate were accompanied by a pastor.
Olopeng explained that he would continue to make churches part of the Remmogo celebrations, adding that next year the celebrations would be extended in order to include a cultural festival which would also attract people from outside his constituency.
He said the organisers of the celebrations would also look for a different venue as the current one was in the village and as a result some people were disturbed especially at night.
He further said the current venue also disturbed football tournaments as it was conducted in a football ground. Olopeng donated 100 bibles to Tonota Minister’s Fraternal and over 3500 snack packages to children under 10 years.
He called on his constituents to love each other and take care of the disadvantaged members of the community. Olopeng said the spirit of giving should extend beyond Christmas.
The celebrations were characterised by dikhwaere and later in the day by different DJs from across the country including MP Olopeng who is also fondly known as DJ Tips in the music industry. ENDS
