22 Dec 2016
Ghanzi District Council chairperson, Mr Thato Tshweneyagae, has praised the Indian High Commission for offering Miss RADP 2016/17, Neo Barkaath, together with the first and second princess a scholarship.
Speaking during a full council meeting, Mr Tsheneyagae said all the three would enrol for entrepreneurship course for small business trainers/promoters programme at the National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development in India.
He said the course would run from January 30, 2017 to March 24, 2017. He said he was thankful for the scholarship saying it would help his district, which successfully defended the crown of Miss RADP.
On poverty eradication projects, he said they had mobilised and assessed a total of 2049 potential beneficiaries for such projects since its inception.
He said the poverty eradication programme has 869 established projects in which 48 are excelling and 156 are not operating, while 24 have failed.
He said to deal with non-performing and saturated projects, the district poverty eradication coordinating committee has decided to meet monthly to address the backlog which currently stands at 637 mostly being small stock and Tswana chicken beneficiaries.
The Council Chairperson said as a district leadership, they have took a decision to address the community and poverty beneficiaries on persuading them to change from small stock and backyard nurseries to other available packages as a result of lack of grazing land for their livestock and limited water for the backyard gardens and tree nurseries in areas such a Kuke.
He said they had experienced a challenge after exhaustion of poverty eradication funds in the month of November resulting in delayed procurement during the month of November, but they have since received P1 700,000.00, therefore procurement and processing of payments has resumed.
He said mobilisation and assessment of new beneficiaries will resume as soon as we are done dealing with the 637 backlog beneficiaries. ENDS
