A Zimbabwean national who was caught with a plant suspected to be dagga has been remanded in custody pending investigations.
Noel Ncube was arraigned before Magistrate Odirile Mokgatle on Wednesday ( December 21) and he agreed with the prosecution to await the investigations in custody.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lorato Chabaetsile, availed the investigating officer, Detective Constable Kebuang Goitseone who told court that he was pleading for the accused to be remanded since he did not have any travel documents nor a permanent place of residence in Botswana.
He said the accused was arrested on December 12, hence the investigations were still at infant stage. He further mentioned that they needed time to send the specimen to the laboratory to authenticate if indeed it was dagga.
“Our fear is that if granted bail, the accused might abscond trial as he only mentioned that he was going to Mokoka lands near Maokane and he does not have a permanent residence,” said Cst. Goitseone.
Ncube was arrested in a bus by Jwaneng Police who are currently on drug enforcement excirse near Moatle along Sir Seretse Khama High way. ENDS
