Tourism Kwazulu Natal (TKZN), a destination marketing agency has partnered with a local travel agent, TRL Travel in a bid to market and promote destination Kwazulu Natal to Batswana.
Addressing members of the media on June 4, TKZN chief operation officer, Ms Phindile Ngcobo said they recognised Botswana as a very key and entry market worth tapping into.
Ms Ngcobo said their aim was to expose destination Kwazulu Natal to Batswana given that KZN was the leading domestic tourism destination in South Africa where many people flocked for fun.
Further, she said they felt Botswana was a lucrative market as they would like the beach experience given that the country is landlocked.
She added that as part of the bigger strategy and partnership they formed with TRL in terms of packaging and marketing KZN, the intention was particularly to promote to Batswana the annual Durban July horse racing event to be held on July 6.
As such, she said they have partnered with Air Botswana and were currently working on having a chartered flight for the Durban July event.
TKZN is also looking into to embarking on a pilot project where they would offer courtesy for members of the local media to cover the Durban July event.
Ms Ngcobo, however said the Durban July has gone beyond the race itself and was now about fashion, glamour and people taking time off to explore Durban.
She also said they were looking for a traveller who would explore KZN and would want to go back again because of the experience and the fun they would have had at the province.
Meanwhile, TRL Travel is a corporate travel management service company that specialises in travel, ticketing, flight reservations, car rentals, hotel reservations and travel insurance. ENDS
