Takatokwane police treat elderly to Christmas lunch

21 Dec 2016

The senior assistant council secretary for Letlhakeng Sub-council, Mr Nigel Mangoye has applauded Takatokwane police officers for their spirit of botho.

Officers demonstrated this spirit when they treated 40 elderly and underprivileged people in Salajwe to a Christmas lunch recently.

Mr Mangoye said the deed was commendable more so that the officers managed to find time to celebrate the lives of the elderly despite their job being one of the most demanding.

He said hopefully other organisations would emulate the officers and celebrate the elderly as they had helped shape the nation into what it is today.

Mr Mangoye said even though the lunch might appear modest on the eye, what matters was the love with which it had been given.

Mr Mangoye also implored the youth to be obedient to their parents and make them happy, saying that would help prolong their lives as happiness has proved to be one of the recipes to longevity.

Letlhakeng Sub-district chairperson, Cllr Tlotlo Batlhophi also hailed the officers for their good work, saying the fact that the officers managed to organise lunch for Salajwe elders despite them coming from different places was a clear indication that the elderly were parents to every child, not just their biological children.

In his word of appreciation, one of the elderly, Mr Nthobatsang Dibeela said the event was a first in their village, and pleaded that it should be an annual event and should roll to other villages around the area.

“I nearly died before this wonderful occasion and I am glad that it happened before I departed,” he lightly said.

For his part, the Takatokwane Station Commander,  Superintendent Ocean Maraganyane said as the police officers, they found it fit to throw the lunch to appreciate the elderly members of the society they work in.

“We also wanted to give the elders a chance to chat and catch up with their peers because on a daily basis they are normally busy and hardly find a chance to get together in such a large number to mingle,” he said.

Supt. Maraganyane also said that the event will be held annually and will rotate each year around villages in their policing area. ENDS
