Dignity restoration important - Masisi
20 Dec 2016
Dignity embodies human rights and bestows the rights that are inalienable, Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has said.
Speaking during the handing over of a house in Letlhakane recently, Mr Masisi said dignity was one of the areas that President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama stated in his five Ds.
Dignity, he said, must be a household name, citing that the country’s leadership had taken upon itself to restore dignity amongst its nation.
The President, Mr Masisi said abhorred gender based violence stating that gender based violence in-dignifies individuals.
Mr Masisi stated that at a material level, a gesture that came a testimony was the one demonstrated by H&J Wholesalers, who identified somebody whose dignity had been infracted upon and patched it by way of a house.
H&J Wholesalers, he said, must be applauded so that other members of society could be motivated to assimilate those values to the extent that they could, increasing the number of donors.
He stated that since 2010, through Presidential Housing Appeal programme, 689 houses had been handed over to beneficiaries and 38 were still under construction.
MThe programme, he said was currently undergoing monitoring and evaluation, saying it was an initiative that must never stop and must continue. He noted that what the President had done in terms of diffusing it had been successful.
Mr Masisi said the beneficiary Ms Thato Vakalisa also an employee of H&J Wholesalers, required dignity in her public and private space.
Ms Vakalisa the house would help her cut the expenses and her kids would be able to pass because of more resources and support at home.
H&J director, Mr Harish Kunju, said their organisational culture was centred on social responsibility.
He said their objective was to relieve Ms Vakalisa from clutches of rent and allowing her to focus her funds and energy on her four children. The four roomed house donated was worth P149 000. ENDS
