Debswana pledges P50 000 worth of gifts

20 Dec 2016

Debswana Diamond Company has pledged gifts worth P50 000 to Mosokotso children.

During the company’s 50 minutes for children in Mosokotso on Friday (December 16), Debswana head of corporate affairs, Ms Esther Kanaimba-Senai, said they had decided to pledge gifts in the form of playing and educational material.

However, Debswana was in collaboration with Hope Worldwide Botswana in the 50 minutes for children.

In 2007, Hope Worldwide Botswana started a programme in Mosokotso whereby they taught children life skills and provide early child stimulation for those at kindergarten stage.

Ms Kanaimba-Senai urged children to take care of the gifts saying they help in child stimulation.

She commended UNICEF, programme coordinators of 50 minutes for children on their good job of identifying such a deserving community like Mosokotso.

Furthermore, for her part, National Children`s Council director at UNICEF Ms Gloria Jacques said children were the most important because they were not just future leaders but parents of tomorrow.

She said it was the responsibility of parents to teach children love, care and fairness.

Ms Jacques advised children not to copy others advising them that in life everyone had a different question paper, they meet different situations and challenges, and therefore they become failures as they try to copy others.

”In life only two things define you, your patience when you have nothing, and your attitude when you have everything,” highlighted Ms Jacques.

When giving an overview on the project, Acting Country director at Hope Worldwide Botswana Ms Ellen Eyman said their life skills programme came about upon realising that there was no one to baby sit children when their parents were engaged with work.

“Hence we made a plan as Hope Worldwide to implement a programme to baby sit the children since there is no day care centre in Mosokotso,” she said.

Ms Eyman said care also extended to checking a child`s health condition and further referring them to clinics or hospital.

One of the parents, Ms Goitsemang Sesupo expressed gratitude over Debswana`s gesture.

The 50 000 worth of gifts comprised of a trampoline, three swings, feeding utensils and some educational materials. ENDS
