The National Strategy Office (NSO) in collaboration with Builder’s Home has donated food hampers and toiletry to 20 elders in Dikwididi in Kgatleng District.

Speaking during the official hand over of the food hampers on recently, the deputy director general of NSO, Dr Kolaatamo Malefho, commended the NSO youth wing who found it necessary to give to the elders during the festive season.

He said they worked as a team in finding support from other stakeholders including Builders Home.

NSO representative, Mr Thabe Mmolai, said their mission was to remember parents in this month of giving and help them ease the struggle they endured in raising them.

He said they worked as a team and looked for sponsors to help bring their project to life.

Mr Mmolai said Builders Home agreed to assist them in buying food groceries for elders aged 80 years and above in Dikwididi.

A representative from Builders Home, Mr Malik Amjad Ali said Batswana have so much respect for the elders, one thing which fascinated him about this country.

Kgosi Mpete said he was overwhelmed by the love from the youth of NSO as they chose his village among many to donate to. He said the community was excited as he was about the donation and hoped the elders would enjoy their festive season with the groceries they received.

He said one of the youth from NSO told him that they chose to donate to elderly people because most times children are given first priority while elders who raised them are usually left behind.

He said his community was blessed to be a part of such generosity as they thought they will never receive such because of their small village.

Overwhelmed with joy, one of the beneficiaries, Mr Lehuma Rapoo said he was thankful for the food groceries received from the donors. ENDS
