Serowe District Show for July 24

07 Jun 2013

This year’s edition of Serowe District Show will not be limited to only agricultural exhibitions but other forms of business will be catered for, says the vice chairperson of Serowe District Show Committee, Mr Molapolosi Moampe.

Mr Moampe said in an interview on June 6 that preparations are at an advanced stage to host the event billed for 24-25 July and is anticipated to attract about 100 investors from all corners of the country, an increased number from 50 exhibitors of last year’s event.

He said the show will be preceded by a horse race to build up the momentum and attract a larger crowd.

Mr Moampe explained that lessons learnt from past events are that Serowe District show could be a good business tourism avenue that could boost Serowe’s economy and the country at large.  He said small businesses also benefit from such an event as some sell the goods while other showcase their products on the available stalls provided by the committee.

Also he said the business community will share ideas and best practices to enhance their products and services at such an event.

We have moved away from being an agricultural orientated fair because as much as we cannot over emphasize the importance of agriculture there are other equally important non agricultural businesses that could complement agriculture in the quest to diversify the economy,” Mr Moampe highlighted.

Meanwhile there is contention about what is called ill timing of the event from some quarters of the business community who would have loved to showcase their products at the trade fair. <br />The exhibitors say the fair collides with the Gaborone International trade fair which they had hoped to also attend.

This is going to deny some exhibitors the chance to showcase their products to an international event, I just wish the committee would have scheduled it for an earlier date,” charged one of the exhibitors Mr Sam Tlhaodi.

In his response to the concerns raised by some exhibitors, Mr Moampe said he was not aware to the clutch between the two fairs but would not discuss what steps he would take to remedy the situation.

He however lamented lack of commitment by other committee members and lack of place of operation for some setbacks faced by his committee. ENDS
