Speed humps reduce accidents
20 Dec 2016
Speed humps help reduce road accidents and drivers have to take responsibility while driving.
Giving a keynote address at the handing over of speed humps at Julia Molefhe Clinic recently, Kgosi Donald Rammala of Gaborone West said the humps would help reduce road accidents since they helped reduce drivers’ speed.
He said people had to take responsibility and drive safely at all times.
Mr Rammala thanked Ms Direpang Segosebe, who was the initiator of the project, for taking the responsibility of writing a letter to the department of roads requesting that speed humps be made along the Sedududu road in order to reduce accidents.
For her part, Ms Segosebe, a nurse at Julia Molefhe Clinic said people had to develop the spirit of doing something for their country and as a result she ended up writing a letter to the department of roads requesting that speed humps be made along the road.
She noted that she wrote a letter to the department in 2014 as a concerned Motswana because she realised that there is wreckless driving along the road and many people usually pass along the road as they go to the clinic.
She thanked the city council for responding to her request in September and emphasised that she is grateful as the humps are launched today.
She urged all Batswana to do something for their country.
She noted that the theme My Country, My Pride encourages all Batswana to take responsibility in everything they do and take their country to greater heights. ENDS
