North West District Council chairperson, Mr Reaboka Mbulawa has urged the public to act responsibly during the festive season.
He called for an acceptable behaviour on the roads, at entertainment areas and also urged them to stand against criminal activities and to practice safe sex.
He made the plea during the chairperson’s ball celebration recently.
He said the district as a tourism destination, would receive an influx of people hence the need to be cautious and act responsibly. “Drive carefully as some will be visiting friends, families and relatives during the festive season,” he said.
On other issues, Mr Mbulawa applauded all stakeholders including the business community for a joint cooperation in developing the district.
He said they worked as a team hence they managed to achieve a lot, adding that it was pleasing as many private sectors had shown interest to partner with his council next year in its effort to drive its mandate.
Some of the achievements he mentioned include water situation which he said the Water Utilities Corporation worked around the clock to ensure residents enjoyed portable water.
He believed that next year the corporation would extend its efforts to Okavango district which is currently under a severe shortage of water. Regarding Foot and Mouth Disease, Mr Mbulawa appreciated the smooth cooperation between the department of Veterinary Services and farmers noting that it was almost a year now without any outbreak.
He said that was an indication that the farmers were responding positively to vaccinate their cattle as expected.
“This is a step in the right direction and it gives us hope that our beef would secure a market as time goes on,” he added.
The chairperson explained that different projects were on going in the district through the Economic Stimulus Programme.
He said the projects had stimulated the local economy as many had an opportunity to benefit from the programme. Mr Mbulawa also observed that the council was committed to improve the education system in the district noting that they managed to fill the post of the chief education secretary.
For his part, the council secretary, Mr Charles Amos said despite the challenges faced by the district, they managed through team work to improve service delivery to the communities and better their lives. ENDS
