Christmas came early for 200 less privileged people and senior citizens of Mahetlwe in Kweneng District.
They received food hampers from the Gaborone based Hindu Community on Saturday (December 17).
The food hampers worth P20 000, according to the Hindu Group project coordinator Mr Harish Pathak, were made possible through the group’s member contribution and community service project aimed at empowering the less privileged.
Presenting food hampers on behalf of Hindu Community, known as Shiv Pariwar Group, Mr Pathak said the Hindu community was committed towards making difference in improving plight of the vulnerable especially the needy.
He further stated that the Mahetlwe project was among various projects the Hindu community embarked on, citing the recent eye screening at Maruapula in Gaborone and awarding of Spectacles.
Member of Parliament for Lensweletau-Mmopane, Mr Vincent Seretse, expressed happiness over the gesture with the hope that it would plant happiness in faces of individual beneficiaries during the festive season.
Mr Seretse, who is also the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry applauded the Hindu community for their constant support towards adhering to the call of caring and supporting for the less privileged in the society.
He encouraged farmers around Mahetlwe area to make full use of the anticipated rainfalls to compliment government through their efforts as well as to look after cattle to reduce regular concerns of stray animals destroying fields.
Mr Seretse further briefed the gathering on the academic performance of Mahetlwe Primary following the release of the Primary School Leaving Examinations results. He said the school has recorded a pass rate of 72.7 per cent as opposed to the previous 42.9.
Mahetlwe ward councillor Simon Maroane also expressed gratitude over the fact that Mahetlwe community was chosen to benefit from the gesture calling for similar entities to emulate the great work. ENDS
