Kgatleng not haven for marijuana use
18 Dec 2016
Kgatleng District Council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong has appealed to the public at large to rid themselves of the perception that smoking marijuana in Kgatleng is condoned.
Speaking during the official opening of Kgatleng District Council meeting in Mochudi last week, Councillor Morolong said the perception that Kgatleng district was a haven for the use of marijuana is a wrong thinking and a bad example to our children.
He said he strongly condemn the use of substances such as marijuana because he believes that it is a gate way to hard drugs.
Mr Morolong further said marijuana or motokwane as it is usually called in Setswana contributes to social ills that currently bedevil the community.
“Our future generation is heavily hooked on motokwane at a very early age”, said the chairperson.
He called upon the leadership of the district to stand with him and fight against the scourge because it is up to them to create a future free of drugs which the children could be proud of.
Mr Morolong said they lose able bodied children and youth to these drugs and therefore urged parents to be vigilant and pro-active in fighting this scourge and call upon law enforcement agencies to find and remove these drug lords or peddlers from the society.
“If motokwane is able to be sold to school going children like it is the case now in most of our schools in Kgatleng, it shows that the community at large including the political wing, Tribal Authority and parents have neglected their responsibilities”, he said. ENDS
