15 Dec 2016

Tutume Sub-district Council has managed to complete over 90 per cent of its planned projects for the 2016/2017 financial year.

The sub-district’s council chairman, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi, said this at the recent full council session in Tutume.

Updating the house on the completed projects, the chairman noted that the projects funded through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) included Matobo Customary Court offices that were completed within the stipulated time and budget.

Mr Mokgethi further said despite challenges of water experienced in the whole of Nata/Gweta constituency, the Manxotai customary court offices have also been completed as per schedule.

Councilor Mokgethi said with the completion of such projects at these villages, issues of office accommodation was going to be alleviated hence prompt service delivery.

He also stated that most of the roads in the sub district have been in a bad state and as such his office has been receiving numerous complaints from the public in this regard.

He however said many of the roads that were planned to be done this financial year have done citing among them the new fire brigade access road which was completed last quarter, the paving of Shangano School in Sebina and the Rural Administration Centre (RAC) access roads.

“As a sub district we strive to deliver services to our best ability at all times to our communities despite their location,” he said.

In addition, he highlighted that they are also making strides towards addressing issues of shortage of staff accommodation as they push for the completion of 20 staff houses at John Nswazwi Junior Secondary School which by far stands at 21 per cent adding that at Denjebuya and Moses Mengwe in Tutume and Maitengwe respectively, the physical progress at these facilities are at 11 per cent where also 16 and 20 houses are being constructed respectively.

Meanwhile, upon commenting on the chairman’s update, councilor Garebaitse Serara of Gweta/Tsokatshaa ward appreciated the updates but however noted that there are some burning issues which have not been addressed such as water shortages affecting the three constituencies serviced by the sub district.
He said in some areas people have resorted to drinking water in the rivers as a result of serious shortage of water and citing that at Nata Senior Secondary School in Nata the situation is bad that students go for days without water which is also affecting their feeding.

He added that with the school enrolling students from different places which some are far away that parents cannot make frequent visits to the school to give their children food and water, it is disheartening as parents have started to complain. ENDS
