Lesetlhana clinic donates house

Lesetlhana Clinic under the South East District Health Management Team (DHMT) has donated a three bedroomed house to the Keabetswe family in Ramotswa.
The house was built through staff contributions and donations from individuals and organisations.
Speaking during the house hand over on Tuesday, Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Dorcas Makgato, said health officials had a duty to care for the community in their catchment area.
Ms Makgato said there were social deterrents of health, which impacted on wellbeing of the community such as hunger, poverty, water and housing.
“As such it becomes necessary for health officials to take keen interest on how the community lives as some conditions impact directly on health. Lack of accommodation is a social deterrent of health, that is why we are here today,” said Ms Makgato.
The minister commended Lesetlhana Clinic for the gesture saying the donation was the 14th house built by the ministry of health and wellness staff around the country.
The clinic matron, Ms Keabetswe Mogami, said they decided to build the house after realising the needs of the Keabetswe family.
She said they came across the family when one of the family members was diagnosed with tuberculosis.
During home visits they found that the family was overcrowding in a dilapidated house which could support the spread of the virus.
Ms Mogami said the idea to construct the house was then conceived in 2014 after consultations with stakeholders. ENDS
