Kgatleng projects going well
14 Dec 2016
Projects undertaken through Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) and backlog eradication programme in Kgatleng District are progressing well.
Addressing the Kgatleng full council session, the council chairperson, Mr Mpho Morolong, said implementation of the education facilities backlog eradication programme phase two at Ramogotsi Primary School was on-going.
The project was expected to be completed by January 2017 despite that it was behind schedule on actual works on site.
Mr Morolong said phase one projects of Ntshinoge and Oodi were still on defects liability period while the Kgabosereto project reached final completion. The ESP projects at Segale Primary School were progressing well and on schedule, he added.
The chairperson said the three toilet blocks were expected to be handed over in December 2016, while the classrooms and staff houses would be completed and handed over for beneficial use March 2017.
On maintenance, Mr Morolong said a number of facilities were in a bad state and needed thorough maintenance, noting that due to shortage of funds, maintenance still remained a challenge.
He added that council had sourced out P1 million from other votes including that of salaries for vacant posts in order to reduce the maintenance backlog.
The council chairperson said tenders for other projects were undergoing evaluation such as maintenance of five staff houses at Kgafela Primary School, admin block at Segale, maintenance of seven council staff houses, maintenance of 1x2 classroom block at Boiteko Primary School and construction of the landfill extension security fence.
Mr Morolong told councillors that council has earmarked for re-tendering of five schools of Modipane, Boiteko, Seingwaeng, Rasesa and Dikwididi whose tenders were cancelled earlier this year following budget cuts. ENDS
