Sepako reaps from ESP

Kgosi Joseph Ramaditse of Sepako says he is delighted by the developmental project that is on-going in his village.
Eight LA2 residential houses for civil servants were under construction, through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Kgosi Ramaditse said the project was progressing well.
“Two local companies have been engaged on this project and each was allocated four houses to build. The first four are at an advanced stage,” he said.
He said, although the other houses were lagging behind because the contractor had abandoned the project, possible solutions had been implemented and there was notable progress.
Kgosi Ramaditse noted that such a development was a significant milestone that would not only address challenges of shortage of accommodation, but also benefited the village in several ways.
“We have almost hit two birds with one stone; besides addressing the public servants accommodation shortage, this has also presented employment opportunities as villagers have been engaged in the project, at the same time this will lead to the growth of the village,” he said.
Kgosi Ramaditse highlighted that although it is a short term employment opportunity, they encourage villagers to make the best out of it.
Meanwhile, Kgosi Ramaditse expressed a concern about some of the Village Extension Teams (VETs) that seem to be reluctant to give out necessary support on projects that are carried out within the village.
“This tendency to fail to support either government or private implemented projects by some VETs will negatively affect us,” he said. Kgosi Ramaditse said although projects are rolled out with officials to monitor the progress, it is also imperative that village committees give the necessary support to show appreciation, adding that the village will only gain the desired momentum if there is cooperation.
On other issues, Kgosi Ramaditse said the VETs should also play a leading role in supporting government initiatives and ensure that they reach the intended beneficiaries. ENDS
