Genk delegates donates to Selolwe

14 Dec 2016

Chairperson of Selolwe Ward development committee in Francistown West, Mr Batshegi Kgari says they have received an amount P28 000 from Genk delegates that recently had an official visit to Francistown.

Mr Kgari said in an interview that they made a proposal about some of their pending developments plans to the Genk City officials through the authority of Francistown City Council (FCC), hence the donation.

“We have always had a keen interest to implement some of the developments here on voluntary basis but due to financial constraints, we always felt challenged,” he said.

Mr Kgari indicated that they submitted their first proposal in 2014 and got rejected.

Last year, he said they tried their luck again and got a positive response.

Mr Kgari said the funds would solely be used on major development activities to be proud of.

“Our intention is to use these funds to come up with a significant development structure.

As such we are working on plans to construct a hall with water system toilets so as to use it during gatherings such as kgotla meetings and also allow the youth to use it for any positive activities,” he said.

He also said they had planned to carry out other developments on voluntary basis to build up their own storeroom.

Mr Kgari mentioned that FCC was working on efforts to design and finalise plans for the hall, adding that they had also secured a space, which would be used for construction adding that necessary arrangements for the space had been completed.

He further said though the funds they had received from Genk were not enough to finish off the entire project, they were happy with the donation.

Mr Kgari said they were working effortlessly to solicit donations from different local companies and from individuals as well.

“We have consulted a number of companies for different donations and so far some have given out a positive response,” he said.

Mr Kgari highlighted that some of the donations they had received so far were sand, pit sand, concrete from Panda Quarries in Francistown. ENDS
