Tlhalerwa appladus MTC good deed

13 Dec 2016

The Senior Private Secretary to the President Brigadier George Tlhalerwa has encouraged Maun Technical College (MTC) to continue their good will of assisting less privileged members of the society.
Mr Tlhalerwa said this recently at a handing over of a house and a toilet built by MTC for the visually impaired Ms Tama Selelo aged 98 of Matsaudi.

He told attendants that since the initiative’s inception in 2010, Batswana has heeded the presidential housing appeal and so far 681 houses has been handed over to the beneficiaries.

He encouraged Batswana to carry on with the gesture of restoring the dignity of the less privileged. He promised to donate a wheelchair to the beneficiary as she could not be able to walk due to ageing.

MTC Principal Mr Edwin Seitshiro said the presidential housing appeal initiative has been a wakeup call for Batswana to realise who they were.

“We are so happy because one of the seeds that President Lt Gen. Dr Khama sew since 2009 has fortunately fell on MTC grounds, we wish to continue helping the less privileged with the little that we have,” he said.

Mr Seitshiro said during their building preparations they established a cordial partnership with Viking Gas who contributed a tune of P32 186.90 in the project. He informed attendants that the whole project amounted to about P63 000. He said they were happy that Ms Selelo will now have a roof over her head like other people.

Social Worker Mr Kagiso Seroke expressed gratitude to MTC and Viking Gas saying their kind gesture will give Ms Selelo comfort and protect her from any form of danger especially during extreme weather conditions.

He said the initiative has now become part of Batswana culture adding that in the next coming years the trail of the initiative will be visually noticed more.

He said the housing appeal initiative was one of its kind and differentiated Botswana from other countries since it is the only African country doing it, a gesture he said many country leaders yearn for. He continued to advise the beneficiary to take care of the house because it can be a legacy to many generations only if it is taken care of.

For her part Ms Selelo appreciated the kind gesture wholeheartedly saying it is the good work of the Almighty God for directing the help to her compound.

“I am so thankful to the mighty hand of the Lord for building a proper shelter for me and my family. May God continue to bless and nurture you always,” she said.

MP for Maun East Mr Konstantinos Markus said Presidential housing appeal initiative has been a trailblazer for Batswana to assist the less privileged since 2010.

He said the initiative was an unending legacy for Batswana and also a huge step forward for Botswana as a whole.

The school also donated clothes to 15 less privileged families in Matsaudi village. ENDS
