Bathoen trust elects new board
13 Dec 2016
Kanye residents have last weekend elected a 10 member board to take charge of the affairs of Bathoen II Trust.
The deposed board, which had worked for the trust for 12 years was wholly replaced by a seemingly youthful team.
Speaking after the election deputy Kgosikgolo Kebapetse Telekelo encouraged the new board to work hard and leave a legacy behind.
Kgosi Telekelo also stressed that members of the public should be informed, in the event a board member wanted to step down rather than disappearing without trace or proper handover.
One of the elected board members, Mr Lesedi Moahi said their vision was to come up with programmes that would assist in job creation for residents of Kanye.
Mr Moahi also explained that members would have in-house elections to fill in the vacant board positions in due course.
Kanye senior wildlife warden, Mr Tities Rooi noted that the new board would be equipped with pertinent skills to capacitate it to manage the assets of the trust on behalf of Bangwaketse.
Mr Rooi also said the outgoing board was required to officially handover an audited financial report soon.
Meanwhile, the outgoing board chairman, Mr Basiamang Ramokone encouraged members to strive to address the protracted land disputes between the trust and land authorities.
He said they were still available to lend a helping hand to the new board.
The trust was established in 2001 with the intention to generate profits for Bangwaketse. The trust owns ranches in Kanye and Lobatse. ENDS
