11 Dec 2016

Botswana Federation of Disabled (BOFOD) intends to lobby government to ratify United Nations Convention on the rights of persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD).

Speaking at a workshop aimed at raising awareness on issues affecting people living with disabilities in Gaborone on Tuesday, BOFOD executive director, Ms Shirley Keoagile said the workshop would help in the promotion of the rights of people with disabilities.

In her remarks, chairperson of BOFOD, Ms Boikhutso Majang said most people living with disabilities did not know their rights; hence the need for Botswana to ratify the UNCRDP that sought to protect their rights.

Guest facilitator from South Africa, Ms Sebenzile Matsebula commended BOFOD for hosting the workshop, adding that as a facilitator her role included proposing ideas and bringing suggestions on how challenges facing people living with disabilities could be dealt with. ENDS
