Khama promises to assist Diphalana centre
11 Dec 2016
President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama has promised to do his best to assist Diphalana Counselling Centre, a non- profit making organisation, to complete construction of a house.
President Khama received quotations for completion of the project during his visit to Gathwane in the Southern District recently.
He also donated 30 chairs to be used during kgotla meetings, football kit for Gathwane team and 50 blankets for the needy and the elderly as well as a chair for Kgosi Malebogo Makaba.
President Khama explained to residents that visits enabled him to interact with ordinary Batswana to appreciate their concerns.
Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila who had accompanied President Khama to the meeting, informed residents that the road that linked their village to Good Hope would be tarmacked in the next financial year.
Mr Mokaila was responding to a question from one resident and Village Development Committee (VDC) chairperson, Ms Daphne Thekane who had wanted to know when the road would be tarmacked.
Mr Mokaila told them that the project designs were ongoing and would be complete by end of March next year, adding if everything went according to plan, construction would also follow in the financial year that would begin April.
However, Mr Mokaila encouraged some residents whose ploughing fields fell within the scope of the road plan to give way for the project.
He decried that the project had experienced some delays as a result of protracted negotiations with some residents who were not willing to budge
.
Meanwhile, in his vote of thanks, area Member of Parliament, Dr Alfred Madigele, thanked President Khama for making time off his busy schedule to interact with his constituents.
Dr Madigele also expressed delight that the road project would connect Gathwane residents to Good Hope and Kanye.
He further requested for Lorwana-Molapowabojang gravel road to also be tarmacked.
He argued that the gravel road could benefit the district because it further linked Molapowabojang with Kgomokasitwa and other villages in the Moshupa Sub district. ENDS
