Botswana China to construct school in Kazungula

 The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo  and the Chinese Ambassador to Botswana Zhao Yanbo have signed an agreement for the construction of a primary school in Kazungula.


Speaking during the signing ceremony minister Matambo said the Chinese government has assisted Botswana in various sectors such as transport, education, culture, energy, health, agriculture and housing since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1975.


He said the discussions between the two governments on the construction of a primary school in Kazungula date back to 2009 and he said that he is happy that they have been concluded.


Mr Matambo explained that the project includes construction of teaching blocks, administrative building, mass hall, staff quarters, gate house, equipment and auxiliary facilities which will be funded by the Chinese government. 

He noted that the government of Botswana shall be responsible for provision of land, site clearance, provision of water and electricity and would also assist the Chinese officials in obtaining residence and work permits.


He said that all these details would be stipulated in the Letter of Exchange which the two governments would sign subsequent to signing of this agreement.

For his part, Ambassador Zhao Yanbo said China and Botswana have a very deep traditional friendship and the two countries  respect each other. ENDS
