Seametso appreciates councillors support
08 Dec 2016
Southern District Council (SDC) chairperson, Mr Alec Seametso, has expressed appreciation for being elected to the position that fell vacant after Mr Mephato Reatile joined Parliament.
In his inaugural address during the on-going full council meeting in Kanye on Monday, Mr Seametso said the council was privileged to have worked with Mr Reatile during his short stint at the helm of SDC.
He said he had personally learnt a lot from Mr Reatile, whom he described as a humble man.
He wished him well in his new appointment, adding the lessons he had picked from Mr Reatile would come in handy for him during his (Seametso) tenure in office.
Mr Seametso, who had been deputising the council chairperson, also congratulated Mr Thamiso Chabalala for ascending to the position of deputy chairperson.
Mr Chabalala was formerly the Kanye Administrative Authority (KAA) deputy chairperson.
On other issues, he encouraged councillors to advise consumers, especially those who bought food items in bulk to ensure they checked the expiry dates before they purchased to avoid contracting food related health complications.
If left unchecked, he warned that some unscrupulous dealers could sell expired goods to unsuspecting consumers, particularly during festive season.
Mr Seametso furthermore challenged councillors to read and internalise Standing Orders to ensure smooth running of Council business. ENDS
