Health ministry donates house

08 Dec 2016

The Ministry of Health and Wellness donated a two bedroomed house worth P200 000 to Mr Kebonyekgotla Kabelo, an 18-year-old SOS student.

Officially handing over the house, Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Dorcas Makgato, said the ministry heeded the call by President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama through the Presidential Housing Appeal.

She said out of the 679 houses already handed over, her ministry had built 13 houses and the 14th one would be completed in Ramotswa soon.

Minister Makgato said when they decided to donate a house to Mr Kabelo, they wanted to build something special more so most of them were women and want beautiful things and they settled for the two bedroom house.

She said they managed to complete the project through donations from officers and companies and at times when there was shortage, they had to call some companies for help.

Ms Makgato said they were happy to be giving this house to Mr Kabelo and it was well furnished because they wanted to give a house that would make him happy.

Presidential Housing Appeal board member, Brigadier George Tlhalerwa, said the initiative by the President came handy as it had housed many families in Botswana.

He said they had already handed over 23 houses in Kgatleng and more were still in the pipeline, which meant that the district had a good share of the houses.

Brigadier Tlhalerwa, also Senior Private Secretary to the President, said the health ministry had already given 13 houses out of the 679 handed over.

He thanked them for the spirit of giving and urged them to build even more houses so that beneficiaries across the country could have dignified lives.

Brigadier Tlhalerwa said beneficiaries appreciated the blessings from Batswana and urged all to continue giving more.

Kgosi George Thwane of Artesia said he was happy for Mr Kabelo and family to be benefiting from the house that would go a long way in sheltering them.

He commended ministry of health for the wonderful work and blessed gift towards the needy young man and said the outstanding energy which the officers showed during the project should be likewise used when serving Batswana at different offices across the country.

Giving a project overview, health ministry’s chief Public relations officer, Ms Doreen Motshegwa, said when they came to Artesia they had a different person in mind but realised that she had already been assisted.

She said through the social worker, a recommendation was made to help Mr Kabelo who will soon be graduating from SOS.

Mr Kabelo was lost for words at the ministry of health’s gesture.

He thanked all officers and donors who came forth to help him and failed to hold back tears of joy for the blessing that had come upon his life. ENDS
