Churches house needy family

08 Dec 2016

Fresh Oil ministries and Mountain of Liberation churches have donated the 678th house to 53-year-old Ms Baleofi Mokane of Mokgophane ward in Mochudi on Tuesday (December 6).

According to Prophet Sehularo Mogopodi the two churches combined efforts to build one of the less priviledged a house in the village as a way of giving back to the community, therefore, they requested their spiritual mentor, Prophet Joshua Iginla of Champion Royal Assembly from Abuja, Nigeria to sponsor the project.  The project was sponsored to the tune of US$10 000.

Prophet Mogopodi explain that Prophet Iginla also supports various charity programmes in the country.  For instance, Prophet Iginla has given university sponsorship to a student and P10 000  cash to a needy person including a monthly allowance of P3 000 to an elderly.

As a result, Prophet Mogopodi mentioned that the leaders of the two local churches have learnt a lot from the stewardship of their mentor, hence they too have extended a helping hand to the community as they have recently donated full uniform to Oliphant’s drifty primary school pupils and food hampers to the needy at Dikgonnye.

He also cited that as the church, they believe they have preached so much and it is time they lead by example.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, representative of the Presidential Housing Appeal board (PHA), Brigadier George Tlhalerwa said when the President started the initiative, he cited that people had it within themselves to give, hence organisations and individuals have heeded to this call in a remarkable way.

Also, he said just as water knows no boundaries, people likewise connect one way or the other thus when the beneficiary was homeless, the church connected with her and housed her.

Brigadier Tlhalerwa further stated that so far 679 houses have been handed over while 38 are under construction and 22 are complete.  In kgatleng district alone, 62 houses have been donated.

The sponsor, prophet Iginla appreciated the President for his good heart and for having allowed his senior officials to receive the house on his behalf.

The prophet explained that he knows exactly how it feels to be in poverty, hence the Bible calls all to spend less on themselves and more on others.  He also said that to them as a church, giving should be a way of life.

“It is not a showup, it is about provoking others to do good to others.”  He said emphasising that service to humanity should not be about religion, but love.

The elated Ms Mokane could not hide her joy, saying that indeed God makes miracles.  For the 17 years she has been living in Mochudi she said, the  land authority could not allocate her a plot but by the grace of God, this year shewas allocated a plot and within the same year she received a complete house.

Ms Mokane also said although she has children, she has not been able to stay with them, but now that she has a home she is happy that she is going to spend the holidays with them since they now have a place they call home.

The President’s Housing Appeal was started in 2010 with the aim to provide accommodation for the needy but also to afford Batswana with one of  President Khama’s 5Ds, that of Dignity. ENDS
