Ralotsia encourages compassion spirit

07 Dec 2016

The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security donated bar soaps, fabric softeners, buckets and towels to Cancer Association of Botswana during a community service day.

Speaking during the donation ceremony, the Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Patrick Ralotsia applauded his ministry staff for showing the spirit of caring and sharing that compelled them to raise funds towards this noble gesture.

He said it was during the September month of prayer against HIV/AIDS and the Cancer awareness month in October that the wellness unit and its committees embarked on some fundraising activities aimed towards donating to a worthy cause that was in line with one of the two commemorations.

Mr Ralotsia explained that the purpose of the fundraising activities was also to raise awareness of staff on the two health issues, HIV/AIDS and cancer, to inculcate a culture of giving amongst the staff of the ministry, to ensure the ministry is complying with the Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation and to take the ministry to the people.

He noted that with the funds raised, Cancer Association of Botswana was the recipient of choice looking at the wonderful job that they have been doing in cancer prevention, facilitating access to health care services for cancer patients and offering counselling and support to those affected by cancer.

Mr Ralotsia further said his ministry will as much as possible and wherever possible heed to the President's appeal and Vision 2016 pillar of a compassionate, just and caring nation. ENDS
